A contemporary painter of international renown, Pierre Soulages was born in Rodez in 1919. A museum dedicated to the artist was opened in his home town. It houses works by Pierre Soulages and major temporary exhibitions.The works show the multitude of techniques and media used by the artist: paper, canvas, glass, bronze or copper, printed works (etchings, lithographs, serigraphs), preparatory work for the stained-glass windows at Conques, paintings on canvas and paper (a unique collection, including gouaches, inks and Brous de noix), documentation, books, photographs, films and correspondence.
